Introduction to power systems, structure of power system - generation, transmission, distribution, per unit system, single line diagram, load characteristics, load curves, load factor, diversity factor, power generation overview, thermal power plant, hydro power plant, nuclear power plant, renewable energy sources - solar, wind, grid integration basics, power quality fundamentals, power system stability basics.
W2: Week 2: Transmission and Distribution Systems
Transmission line parameters - resistance, inductance, capacitance, short, medium and long transmission lines, voltage regulation, corona, insulators, string efficiency, underground cables, distribution systems - radial, ring main, interconnected, distribution transformers, feeder, distributor, service mains, voltage drop calculation, power loss calculation, tariff structure, energy metering, smart metering basics.
W3: Week 3: Substation Equipment and Protection
Substation types - indoor, outdoor, GIS, AIS, substation layout, busbar arrangements, circuit breakers - types and working, isolators, earthing switches, current transformers, potential transformers, lightning arresters, protective relays - overcurrent, differential, distance, transformer protection, generator protection, feeder protection, relay coordination, switchgear fundamentals.
W4: Week 4: SCADA, Smart Grid, Live Projects, and Certification
SCADA fundamentals, SCADA architecture, RTU, IED, communication protocols - IEC 61850, IEC 60870, DNP3, Modbus, energy management system, distribution management system, smart grid fundamentals, smart grid components, microgrid, grid automation, renewable integration, live projects - load flow analysis, substation design basics, protection coordination study, grid monitoring dashboard, complete documentation, viva-voce examination, certificate distribution.
